Commission feedback deadline: European Critical Communication System
Why it matters
EU-wide interoperable emergency communications system for first responders across borders will reduce operational fragmentation and strengthen collective crisis response and strategic autonomy in critical infrastructure.
What to watch
- No announcement lands on this date — the feedback window simply closes. Next public step: the Commission summarises the feedback received and moves the file towards adoption.
- Process stage to verify: adoption workflow.
- Commission summary: First responders such as police officers, firefighters and emergency responders cannot easily use their radios and smartphones when working with their colleagues from other Member States across borders. The European Critical Communication System will link first responders’ communication systems in the EU and the Schengen area. This will facilitate their life-saving operations and other work. It will also increase the EU’s resilience and strategic autonomy.
