Second EU-Gulf Cooperation Council summit (Saudi Arabia)
Why it matters
EU and Gulf leaders meet for only the second time, after the first summit in October 2024. The EU is the Gulf states’ second-largest trade partner (€165.6 billion in goods in 2025) and fuels make up over 75% of what it imports from them, so energy supply sits next to trade, investment and the Middle East conflict on the table.
What to watch
- Any step towards an EU-GCC free trade agreement, or bilateral deals with individual Gulf states instead.
- Energy commitments: LNG supply, hydrogen and investment.
- A joint line on the Middle East, and how far it goes.
